Sri
Lanka has over 1600Km. of tropical beaches circled by the warm water of the
Indian ocean, bays, lagoons, river-mouths, off-shore islands, multi-coloured
coral reefs and submerged, centuries-old shipwrecks. Sea-water temperature
average 27 degrees C. high season underwater visibility is betWeen 15m. to
over 40m. and wind velocity from 2 to 6 on the beaufort scale. (November to
April in the south and West and May to September in the eastern and northern
regions. )
The
varied and exciting water-sports range include wind-surfing, water-skiing,
surfing, sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, speed-boat, banana-boat, jet-scooter
and fun-tube riding. Boat cruises in rivers and lagoons offer adventure and
insights of rivers-bank and Wet-land flora and wild life.

courses of more than a hundred rivers, lagoons, natural and(a large number
of) irrigation lakes promise exciting canoeing and kayaking year-round. Programmes
frequently include camping in unspoilt rural mooring sites. Popular choice
include the Kalu Ganga

Bridge on the River Kwai, winner of 7 Academy Awards, was shot at Kitulgala,
a picturesque up- river canoeing/ Kayaking location on the Kelani Ganga.
